Made famous by the movie with the same name, Serendipity is a fun place to grab a bite to eat. They are famous for their frozen hot chocolate which is large enough that it can be shared by two people (or ordered by someone who has a real sweet tooth). Even though there is generally a wait, they have a little store in the front with interesting gag gifts that can amuse people for some time.
I hear the food is mediocre. But do go for frozen hot chocolate.
I never hesitate to recommend this place to friends when they visit NYC. I think their food is delicious, and making a reservation is always good (if you try to go only for dessert, they do not accept reservations, which means a 2+ hour wait). There is Bloomingdale's and Dylan's Candy Bar nearby to lounge at while waiting, though, so it's not too bad! I also have to echo everyone's opinion on the Frozen Hot Chcolate - try it! And bring a date to share it with! 5 stars!
