Day 1 - Friday January 11, 2008
I decided to show my brother around by taking him to the Element Party at Suede that evening. I like Suede because it's large and there are plenty of bars for you to get your drinks at. But, lately, the crowds have been dying down a bit and the parties here haven't been quite as good as they were before.
Day 2 - Saturday January 12, 2008
Legendary Palace has some of the most delicious dim sum available. I've come here for dim sum several times now (and to many of the other restaurants in Oakland) and I'd have to say that they offer the best food for the price in Oakland's Chinatown. Jade Villa is ok, but not quite as good. Peony is more popular but the food is about the same. If you're looking to grab some dim sum, beware that there could be some hefty lines during the prime hours of the weekends. But, Legendary palace is definitely worth the wait. Here are a few items to be sure and try: ha gow, tsu mai, and the custard bun.
I've been wanting to go to Burma Superstar for quite awhile now. I've been to Mandalay and really enjoyed the food there. So, I was told that I had to try Burma superstar. So, I took my brother there. I liked the food, but I was not overly impressed. Perhaps I chose the wrong items. We ordered the Burmese Samosas, tea leaf salad, Burmese style beef curry, eggplant with garlic sauce, and their biryni. I liked the tea leaf salad an biryani the most.
Day 3 - Sunday January 13, 2008
I hadn't really shown my brother any of the touristy sites yet on his visit. So, I decided to show him around SF. We'd walk around the Union Square area for a bit (since we're not big shoppers, we won't spend too much time here) and then head over to Shalimar, one of my favorite Indian food restaurants in SF.
Then, we'd drive over to the Fisherman's Wharf area to relax and see the tourist attractions there followed by a nice stroll from there to Ghirardelli Square where we'd grab some dessert and then walk back. At least, that was the original plan.
Shalimar was as delicious as always. But, for those who aren't too fond of spicey food, it can be a tad bit spicier than most places I suppose. But it is definitely worth a try if you enjoy good Indian food.
At Fisherman's Wharf, we stopped to take some pictures finally.

He's got the lighthouse in his hand... sorta...

On the way to Ghirardelli
Now once we got to Ghirardelli I could tell something was up... wait a minute... is that... CLOSED?!?! Apparently they were doing some renovation to the main Ghirardelli Chocolate store. Disappointed, we turned to walk around and potentially just leave. But we noticed the sign that said that they were open in another part of the square for the time being. So, we sought it out and had a small ice cream dessert that the three of us shared. They don't have as many of the options as the regular store though... so I'd wait to come back when they finish their remodeling or whatever else they're doing.
