Day 1 - Sunday January 13, 2008
took about an hour to drive up to napa from SF, first checked into the hotel and then drove to the wineries during the afternoon

went to opus one first before going to cakebread and then finally v.sattui . Was tempted to buy the latest opus one release, but decided to save my purchases for some different wines to add to our modest collection
drove by cakebread cellars like 3 or 4 times before we finally found it. There aren't any noticeable signs from the main road (it's on hwy 12), there was like a 8 point font little 'cakebread' sign on the mailbox - hard to see if you're going any faster than 10 miles an hour!
went on cakebread's wine tour - evidently they're usually really busy and you generally need to call ahead and make reservations to go on the tour.
made it to v.sattui a little bit before they closed, picked up some bottles of jamie's favorite (gamay) while there before going back to villagio to shower/change before dinner

villagio was quite amazing, great location and beautiful grounds. Probably the nicest place i've stayed at in the napa area - i'm sure that there are some other nice hotels as well, but we usually go for day trips so we haven't had a chance to try out many hotels there.
missed the cowboys/giants playoff game, caught the last bit on radio and heard my boys lose :(
oh well, at least i was out 'n' about instead of stuck inside some bar watching them lose!
closed out the day with dinner at bistro jeanty, nice place - kind've homey, thought that it would be fancier, glad that it wasn't :)
Day 2 - Monday January 14, 2008
jamie went to the spa while i slept in :)

went to hurley's for lunch, the restaurant was pretty nice even though part of it was closed for rennovations
resisted temptation to purchase the caymus reserve (top rated cab in napa), went for a few bottles of the regular caymus instead- should be outstanding nonetheless

wanted to stop by groth b/c i've been pretty impressed with the groth wines i've had, and all i could think about when we got there was how entirely PINK the winery was... ummm... nice
the tasting area at stags leap was smaller than i expected, and no-one else was there. Surprising since this is one of the most well known and respected wineries in the napa valley. (or so i heard)
overall a great trip, went to a few wineries that i've been wanting to go to, tried out a few good restaurants, and stayed at a great spot!
maybe we'll try to do these overnight trips a bit more :)
