Day 1 - Saturday August 18, 2007
We arrive in Cabo San Lucas and after going through customs what is the first thing we come to? Tons of people who want to shuttle/cab you over to Cabo San Lucas from the airport. Negotiating is a must. But, it's not easy when there's a virtual monopoly here. You definitely end up paying more for this shuttle ride to the city than you do from the city. It can be a bit cheaper if you decide to go on a shuttle with other people. But, you also sit there waiting until they've filled it up a bit more (which we ended up doing). Then, the rain came in and it was starting to look bleak. Luckily, once we finally go to our hotel, the sun was out and the weather was fine again.
Artsy view from our room onto the shopping plaza within the Villa del Palmar resort
After unpacking, we set our sights on some food. Feeling a bit adventurous, we decided to walk from our hotel to the harbor area via la playa Medano. We figured that since the weather was nice and the sun was still out, we might as well. I'm glad we did. What a sight to behold.

View to Land's End from Medano Beach
Medano beach has plenty of vendors peddling their activities to tourists and everyone wants to offer you the "best price." Be sure to negotiate hard. If you're there during spring break (like I was a few years ago), you have less negotiating power since there are so many people there. But, most off-season dates are slow. So, you can get some great deals for jet skiing, snorkeling, para-sailing, and taxi rides to lovers/divorce beach and land's end.
As we walked over to the Harbor where we were going to eat dinner, we decided to check out the activities and even get a few prices for what we wre considering doing. James even decided jump in for a swim in the turbulent waters.

Jumping in The reaction from the crowd
We really didn't have a place in mind to eat. But once we got to the harbor, we encountered the same sort of hard-selling that we saw on the beach. There is always someone in the front of every restaurant ushering people in. We decided to go to the Shrimp House given that we all loved shrimp and we were lured in by promises of All-You-Can-Eat Shrimp. I'm a sucker for buffets especially if it's good. And, it looked pretty good. It turned out to taste just as good. And we got our fill of shrimp for the day. I'd come back here the next time. They had a few different varieties of shrimp. My favorite was the coconut fried shrimp.

Hmm... Which one should I try first?

Dig in!

We didn't come to Cabo not to enjoy the nightlife. And, given that we arrived on Saturday night, we felt compelled to hold back food coma and our urges to call it a night (after an evening of all-you-can-eat shrimp and our long flight over). So, we decided to continue our trek downtown to check out some of the more popular bars. We checked out Giggling Marlin, Nowhere Bar, and Squid Roe before we called it a night.
Here are some notes on each bar:
- Giggling Marlin: This is also a restaurant if you want to eat here. Beware though. If you eat here, there WILL be people coming around with whistles and drinks. And they WILL force you to drink them and then shake your head violently as they try to get you to drink more. This is all well and good until you realize that you need to pay for those shots you just drank. They also grab a few folks to participate in their special event which is to tie you upside down by your feet while giving you alcohol. Lots of fun to watch... but I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon.
- Nowhere bar is right by the Harbor/Marina area and a nice place to grab a few drinks. It's mainly just a bar but it's a nice place to people watch as folks walk to and from the marina to the other establishments.
- Squid Roe is my favorite bar in Cabo San Lucas. It's always busy and it's HUGE. Two floors of music and people dancing. You can also eat here as well, but I've never had food here so I don't know how it is. But, it's a spot I like coming back to night after night to enjoy some dancing. They have an announcer type person who directs things downstairs, a "cage" upstairs, plenty of dance floor space (dance wherever you like really...), great music, and plenty of people walking around trying to give you drinks. Again, if you take those drinks... you pay for them. They are great at making you drink those shots.
Day 2 - Sunday August 19, 2007
There are several things I love to do when in Cabo. One of them is to go ATV riding in the dessert. Nothing beats the cool breeze as you fly through some open terrain with the ocean on one side and the hilly dessert terrain on the other.

Day 3 - Monday August 20, 2007
We decided to venture out a bit further today and check out Chilleno Beach. It was quite an adventure getting there. It was even more difficult trying to get back to our hotel. I think we might just stick to Medano next time since that's the big touristy one. But, it was nice to check out some of the other beaches in the area.

Lounging around

Beautiful views and it was a lot less crowded here

Time to go
When we asked the cab driver where we should go eat, his response was: "Mi Casa." I thought he was joking... as in. My house is the best place to go eat. But, nope. He meant, Mi Casa, the restaurant. And, I'm glad we asked. Mi Casa is quite possibly the best Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at in Mexico. I know for sure that it's the best in Cabo. We loved all the dishes, especially their Chile Relleno, which I have yet to find anyone anywhere make one quite as good as theirs.

Enchiladas I believe

Carne Asada

The famous Chile Relleno

Pork

Forgot what this was... but still delicious

And some margaritas to wash it all down
