Day 2 - Thursday July 1, 2004

guava plantation

the plantation's very pretty and it's a nice walk as long as it's not too hot, but there's not much else to do there.  best part is the fresh guava juice!

Day 3 - Friday July 2, 2004

helicopter tour

so we've never been in a helicopter before, and i must say i was a little nervous just thinking about it...  but the nervousness turned into excitement as soon as we got onto the tarmac.  we were lucky to be seated in the front seat next to the pilot, the view was breathtaking!

thankfully it was a clear day, you can never be too sure in kauai as it's the rainiest island of them all. we flew around the island catching glimpses of huge waterfalls, the na pali coast, and the area where the movie jurassic park was shot.

i wasn't expecting it to be so noisey, though, and it was difficult to communicate with others on the helicopter...  even those sitting right next to you.  fyi- not recommended for those who get air sick easily.

snorkel cruise

after the helicopter ride, we rushed over to the marina where our catamaran, the blue dolphin, was waiting for us to board.  this is supposed to be one of the top activites to do in kauai.  although the cruise was fantastic, the view amazing, and staff was friendly, i didn't see any fish during the five hour tour....  nothing, not one single fish!!!  it was odd, i don't know, maybe it was the time of year or time of day.  steve was lucky to see a few at the very end, but by that time i had already given up and was back on the boat.  but, on another note, the water was crystal clear blue!

beach house dinner

after a long day out, we were looking forward to a nice romantic dinner.  you can't go wrong with the beach house, it is definitely a place where you can get good food while in a great atmosphere.  casual elegance is how i would describe it.  because it gets so dark early on, we were unable to enjoy the views of the water or any kind of a sunset.  it was only after dinner that when we went outside for a walk did we discover that there was no beach at all.  the restaurant is on the water, but all you'll find outside is a grassy area with tiki torches and rocks leading into the water.  we found out later from pictures on the web that the beach is further down the property.
