Day 1 - Thursday August 23, 2007

Every year, the Autumn Moon Festival happens in SF's Chinatown. Given that I'm a huge fan of festivals of all sorts, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to check out a bunch of booths, hang out with some friends, and eat lots of good food.
If you think SF's Chinatown is busy normally, you haven't seen anything until you've been there during one of those festivals. The Autumn Moon Festival probably isn't as big as the New Year's celebration, but there are still plenty of people.
The festival always features plenty of performances, booths, and food. So, we walked around and enjoyed the sites. We even met up with Ms. Teen Chinatown. The best part was that when they grabbed people up to the stage to join in on the festivities, people from our group were led up there as well.

Oh, and who can forget... There's plenty to buy as well. One of the best things we found there was the face massager. It looks crazier than it sounds. So, I thought I'd attach some pictures so you can picture this. Imagine wearing this and having it massage your face. Of course we all had to try it on.

We also decided to eat nearby at the Famous "House of Nanking". Walk by and you'll almost always notice a line of people outside. What you'll also notice once you walk in are: (1) there are pictures of famous people all over the wall and (2) For a place located in Chinatown... there is a serious shortage of Chinese people here. And, for all the hype, I wasn't completely awed by the food here. I like how they just set you up with some food (if you're a first-time customer, they'll choose the dishes for you). And, although the food was good... it wasn't great enough that I'd stand in line to eat here. I'd rather eat at one of the many restaurants in the area. That being said, if you're visiting the city for the first time and you want a touristy place, I'd still take people here. Once you've been featured on the food network everyone wants to see what the big deal is.
