People from the city of Sao Paulo are known as paulistanos and the word paulistas is used for anyone who comes from the state of Sao Paulo. The famoius motto of Sao Paulo is "Non ducor, duco" which translates to, "I am not led, I lead." A famous nickname for the city is "Sampa," immortalized in a Caetano Veloso's song. Sampa is also known for its unreliable weather, architecture, skyscrapers, and helicopter fleet.
Sao Paulo is an ethnically diverse metropolitan area with heavy global influences. It is shown in both the cuisine and the cultural landmarks here. There are approximately 62 different types of cuisines in Sao Paulo and over 12,000 restaurants. For nightlife options, try the many bars, discos, pubs, and lounges. For those who enjoy a good cultural experience, Sao Paulo is home to the Sao Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), dedicated by Queen Elizabeth II in the fist half of the XX Century and Pinacoteca do Estado art museums. Other well-known museums include the Museu do Ipiranga, Memorial da America Latina, Museu da Imigracao e Memorial do Imigrante, Museu de Zoologia da USP, Acervo de Palacio dos Bandeirantes, and Museu da Imagem e do Som. With so much to see and do, you're going to need at least 5 days to experience everything that Sao Paulo has to offer.
