Description
The Roseville Strawberry Festival is back. And, this time, it's happening on mother's day weekend at the Placer County Fairgrounds in Roseville, CA. The strawberry festival is going to feature organic and local strawberries with live music/shows/contests, beer and wine garden + strawberry daiquiris, arts and crafts, farmers market, and GREAT food. I'm pretty excited about the jam tasting contest and the strawberry shortcake eating contest (no hands) too. This should be a great event!

Details on the food:

It's a harvest festival and they're going to be harvesting delicious, organic, locally-grown strawberries.  What do you do with all those strawberries?  How about strawberry beer (not flavored or dyed but actual strawberry beer), strawberry moose, strawberry shortcake, frozen italian ice (of course strawberry is the flavor), shaved ice (yup strawberry flavored), funnel cakes w/ strawberries, strawberry margaritas, strawberry BBQ sauce on an assortment of BBQ items, kettle corn, bread, scones, cookies, muffins, gelato, fudge, james, relishes, locorices, and slushies all with the option of strawberry flavoring.

If you don't like strawberries, I'm not sure why you'd attend.  But, if you're looking for non-strawberry food options, there are still plenty to delight your senses - Teriyaki chicken, pana cota, wine, watermelon juice (organic), lemonade/limeade (organic), pulled pork sandwiches, deep fried zucchini and artichoke, philly cheese steak sandwich, spare rib plate, tri tip plate, fresh fruit flambe, chickne plate/sandwich, hamburgers, cheese nachos, fried shrimp, clarm or potatoe chowder, beef stew, grilled sausages, italian sausages, polish sausages, garlic fries, hot dogs, and roasted corn.

Other things to do:

Food is an important part of the festival, but there's more.  There will be a certified farmer's market, arts and crafts vendors, beer and wine garden, and plenty of strawberry themed menus.  For entertainment, there will a free concert with DJs, live performances, acts, and shows.  There will also be a judged classic car show with awards in 18 categories.

For families with children, there will be a fun zone, petting zoo, and pony rides.  There's even a section just for kids.  In this area, you'll find jump houses, slides, obstacle courses, rock walls, face-painting, and carnival games to go along with the strawberry Go Round.

Strawberry Tidbits

To prepare yourself for the Strawberry Festival, here are a few tidbits and fun facts about this wonderful fruit.  After all, this is a festival to celebrate strawberries.

Strawberry Tidbits:

For the health conscious,  Did you know that just 8 strawberries have more vitamin C than a medium orange or that strawberries are a good source of folic acid? Folic acid is important in fetal development.

For the sweet tooth,   Strawberries are their sweetest when fully ripened on the plants. For most varieties this means leaving the berries on the plant for a day or two after they are fully colored. The only way to know for sure is a taste test.

For the guys,  Do you think Strawberries are to feminine for you?  I know they are red.  And they can look like a heart.  And their referenced with girly holidays and gifts.  And their definitely a "fruit".  But think of how delicious they are, not to mention the fact that women love them and festivals .  It's obvious that bringing that lucky lady in your life here would be a win win situation.  So treat the special Ladies in your lives to a Mothers day stroll through the Strawberry Festival as her gift.  Bring in  her homemade jam to enter in the contest.  Let her pick out her own Mothers day gift at the Fair and be patient, Fathers day is not far away.

Did you know Strawberries are the only fruit that carries their seeds on the outside.

Also for the guys,   Strawberries bruise easily. Be gentle when pulling them from the plants. Snap the stem directly above the berry rather than pulling on the berry itself.  Keep harvested berries in a cool, shady location.
