Day 1 - Friday September 7, 2007

SF Zoo

A bunch of friends and I decided to spend a three day weekend in San Francisco at the end of the summer. We started off by heading to the SF Zoo in the morning. This zoo has plenty to see and some pretty good exhibits. It is a fun activity to do with friends to relax and hang out. We grabbed lunch at the cafe inside. Snacks are overpriced but it is convenient and we knew what to expect--it is zoo food afterall.

Hotel - The Whitcomb

We checked into our hotel and got changed for dinner. The Whitcomb is a cute, historic hotel. The rooms were nice. They have a restaurant on the first floor that is connected to the restaurant. I'd eaten there before and the food was good but we wanted to go out to eat at the Cliff House, instead.

Cliff House

The Cliff House is located right on the water and has a beautiful view of the ocean. They also have live jazz on Friday nights on the Balcony Lounge. The food is delicious and I love to go there on a special occasion.

Bar None

After dinner I ended up just going back to the hotel. A couple of my friends went out to Bar None. It has a pretty young crowd and is located in the Marina. One reason it is popular is because you can play beer pong.

Day 2 - Saturday September 8, 2007

Sea Lion Cafe

The next morning we went to Fisherman's Wharf. One of my friends was visiting from out of town and wanted to see some of the city's popular tourist sites. We watched the sea lions lounge on the docks and then ate at the Sea Lion Cafe for lunch. The food was good but nothing too special. It was nice to have a view of the sea lions as we ate.

After lunch we wandered around Fisherman's Wharf. The tours of Alcatraz were all booked so we just took pictures of it, instead.

Coit Tower

In the afternoon, we hiked up to Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill. It was nice to have an adventure as we climbed up hundreds of winding steps to get to the top. It has a nice view of the city although there is not much to do once you make it to the top.

Chinatown and Golden Gate Park

We spent some time wandering around Chinatown and looking through all the shops there. After that, we bought deli sandwiches and headed to Golden Gate Park to have a picnic dinner. It was a very relaxing afternoon and very enjoyable. The Japanese Tea Garden is worth checking out although we didn't go there on this trip.

Day 3 - Sunday September 9, 2007

Beach Blanket Babylon

We went to the show for the Sunday matinee performance. It was pretty entertaining although some of the jokes were too corny. I think it is something that was worth seeing once but I wouldn't go back again.

Lombard Street and The Stinking Rose

After the show we went to take a look at Lombard Street. This is a must-see in San Francisco. I've seen it many times and I always take visiting friends to see the curvy street. Afterwards we went to dinner at The Stinking Rose. This restaurant is famous for having a ton of garlic. It was really fun place and I thought the food was good; their bread with garlic oil spread was tasty. After dinner we drove back home, glad that we had spent the weekend in the city.

Sounds like a wonderful trip so far! You should definitely go check out the Haight-Ashbury Area (Haight Street) with its Flower Power flair. While you're there I recommend Buena Vista Park. The view from there may be more stunning than from Telegraph Hill plus you have the Victorian houses.
