Day 1 - Tuesday May 29, 2007
monday night
jamie- "hey maria"
maria- "hey jame"
jamie- "is dean driving you to the airport tomorrow"
maria- "yeah, before going to work"
jamie- "ok, good... at least you'll have someone else to wake you up"
maria- "haha. don't worry, i'll be there"
jamie- "ok, we'll meet you once you exit the terminal. we have one car, and the hotel is about 50min away"
maria- "alrighty"
jamie- "yay, see you tomorrow"
maria- "see ya"
jamie- "don't miss your flight!"
maria- "dooon't wooorry, i won't :)"
tuesday afternoon
jamie (1.5 hours after maria's flight landed)- "are we in the right terminal, everyone's off the plane... where's maria?"
michelle- "yup, we're in the right area"
jamie- "i'll go check inside, maybe she's stuck in customs"
2 hours after maria's flight landed
jamie- "everyone's cleared out, no one will give me any info on her... where is she?? oh wait, one reception bar on my phone, i better try calling her. again. and again... and again, no answer"
waiting. waiting. and still waiting... no maria
2.5 hours after maria's flight landed
kali- "i'm hungry"
michelle- "here, have some candy... yogo's, anyone??"
3 hours after maria's flight landed
steve- "i better go pick up the car or else we might lose our reservation"
jamie- "we should all go, she's not here.... wait, i have a new voicemail.... 'hey jame, it's maria - silence - i missed my flight.... sorry'"
after much planning, we were finally able to get a large group together for a trip to cabo (though not during the same time). we always love coming here because it's such a breeze, flight time is a quick 2.5 hour flight from SF... and voila, you're in paradise! well, not at first. as you can tell during the ride in the car, cabo is still has its questionable areas.
we made our way to the hotel after the whole "maria flight fiasco" was resolved. we had a nice 3bd/3bath oceanview unit reserved at the sheraton hacienda del mar where we stay every year. after checking in, we got into our suits and headed straight down to the pool. free mai tai's, pork ribs, and chicken wings were offered at the "owner's fiesta". perfect timing because we were starving (only kali is a vegetarian, so just chips and salsa for her while michelle and i went back for seconds, thirds, and fourths).
one of the best things about our hotel is that it's 5 minutes away from costco. stocking up on all the essentials on day one is a must -- love costco!
and maria finally made it!! only about 7 hours late :)
taco inn for dinner. yum!
Day 2 - Wednesday May 30, 2007
from the moment you step out of the airplane, you and everyone in your group will be hounded to attend a timeshare presentation. we ignore most of them, but because we already own two at the hacienda del mar, we usually schedule one to attend every year. it helps us to compare others and what they are offering to ours. not only to you get a free breakfast, discounts on misc cabo activities, and credit towards your car rental ect. but you also get to tour a beautiful piece of property.

we loved the westin regina resort and spa. i believe every room/unit has an oceanview, which is a big plus because who wants to go to cabo to have a garden view room. the desert themed decor was simple and not overdone, and rooms were nicely updated with modern touches. because the resort was built on a cliff, getting around could be difficult for some (especially those with children or the elderly), but golf cart-type vehicals are always around to give you a lift if you don't mind waiting. this could be more of an issue if you're there during high season. ammenities here are similar to what you'd expect at any other 4-star resort in cabo...
multiple outdoor pool areas, swim up bars, day spa, massages on the beach, tennis, golf, upscale restaurants, kiddie activites ect.. the location would probably best serve couples and families, those looking to be near the action would have a 20 minute ride to get downtown. all things considered, we were tempted to purchase here after a last ditch effort was made from the staff to close the deal. yes, they will keep trying to sell you on their property even if you refuse (which we did after all). if you're seriously considering purchasing a timeshare, show no interest, and at the very end start to walk away. do not buy unless you feel they're offering you a deal of a lifetime.
cabo's main beach. to me, the beach itself is overrated. if you're a young spring-breaker this is where you'd want to be... crazy things happen here during spring break. things that don't interest me anymore :) but on the positive side, if you're in the right area, you'll have an amazing view of the arch, and from here is where you can book anything from jet skis to parasailing, or catch a water taxi to lovers beach (a secluded beach near the arch where you can bask in the sun on either the side of the pacific ocean OR the sea of cortez. i prefer the sea of cortez as the water on the pacific side tends to be more choppy). but medano beach is the only beach where you'll find beachfront restaurants that span most all of downtown. here, you'll find popular hot spots like "the office" and "billigans". it's nice to spend a fews hours here as long as you can tolerate the beach vendors trying to sell you something every two minutes. try to avoid downtown if you see the big cruise ships in the bay. all vendors raise pricing and the streets are flooded with big crowds.

one of our favorite things to do here... jet skis!
edith's is probably our all time favorite restaurant to go to cabo, we always have a good meal here! it has both a romantic yet fun ambiance to it and is perfect for couples or small groups. request to be seated under the large outdoor hut, it'll make your dining experience that more magical. must orders include the fish fingers, the "wally special" (their version of a surf n turf) and the flambéed bananas with ice cream (quite a show!)... mmmmm, sounds good! but expect to pay, the only con is that it's a bit pricey. the impeccable service makes up for it, so splurge - you're on vacation :)
Day 3 - Thursday May 31, 2007
after hearing so much about this restaurant, we finally went to have dinner here. we decided to go to the original location which is downtown (the other is at the palmilla resort). steve and i aren't big sushi eaters, but definitely liked everything we ordered. the fish here was so fresh and sauces add interesting flavor. we'll be back again!
Day 4 - Friday June 1, 2007
Day 5 - Saturday June 2, 2007
this restaurant has been a family fave for years! the tacos are small but soooo good -- we love it, and everyone we bring here feels the same way. it's located in the puerto paraiso mall on/near the marina, so there's plenty of parking. it's clean, quick and affordable, especially if you've been paying hotel prices for food the whole week. granted, you're not on the beach or out in the town, but you will still feel like you're in a tropical area if you dine outside on the patio. if you're at the mall anyway, it's the perfect place to grab lunch or a snack!
mmmm... even though mexico myztic was one on the top rated restaurants in cabo (which doesn't mean much), i don't think we'll be coming back to this restaurant. our group of 10 were the only people dining here on a saturday night, and the service was extremely slow. food was just mediocre, and the ambiance was nothing to rave home about. the one cool thing about this restaurant is that they have a fire pit in the middle of the courtyard where you could gather on a chilly night. and that's where you'd find us in between courses draped with full panchos, which they provided on every seat.
